According to the experts, the rate of technological change grows exponentially. Currently there are almost 3 billion people connected to the public internet right now; by 2020 the number will approach 4 billion. Technology is changing at a faster and faster pace. In fact, today is the slowest rate of technological change you will ever experience in your life. If you go to college, any technology you experience or learn about is likely to be outdated or replaced by the end of your 4 years stint. Smartphones are the central data gathering point for your connected life and average users check them about 150 times each day. There is such a thing as smart phone addiction. People can’t wait for information anymore. They don’t have to. Hop on Google and in a flash you can find a restaurant, a friend, a ride and tips on how to fix your dishwasher – no problemo.
Running a business is hard enough. But trying to keep up with the ever changing world of web technology is not your most important focus. Running your business is. Sure you’ve heard something about mobile friendly websites, digital marketing, SEO, the importance of Social Media but at the end of the day you can’t be an expert at everything. We’re here to partner with businesses who need help in these areas.
Modernize Your Website
One tip we recommend for every business operating a website that’s 4 or more years old – replace your website immediately. The new, responsive technology means your website will be mobile friendly. That’s a big deal. If your website isn’t using responsive technology then it will be difficult for people using mobile phones to read your content and get the information they need.
Footnote on Responsive Technology
Over 10 years ago, we already had this idea. We thought it would be nice to have a website be flexible and fit the various screen sizes on desktops,so we built one. It worked using a combination of CSS and div tags – the main ingredients behind today’s mobile friendly technology. We were excited. It worked great on 3 out of 4 web browsers. But because it had to work across all the browsers we canned the concept. Web browsers weren’t ready. Now, 10 years later, they are.
The term “Responsive” Web Design is a idea of designing websites using technology that would adapt to the ever-changing landscape of devices, browsers, screen sizes and orientations by creating flexible, fluid and adaptive websites. Years ago, we would build 2 websites. One for desktops and one for mobile devices. Today, we just build one website that seamlessly adapts content to the different screen sizes viewers are using.
