Google has hired the top talent on the planet and continues to score big wins with it – especially in the world of mobile technology. Their Android operating system which powers mobile phones is by far the leading OS across all mobile phones with about 23% of the market. Samsung recently saw shipments totaling 81 million smartphones, which is indeed a massive number that was bolstered by the launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge for the first quarter of 2016. Meanwhile, Apple’s global smartphone market share saw a much bigger drop, from 17.9% in Q1 2015 to 14.8% in Q1 2016. So the Apple market is about 1/2 the size of Android’s. The biggest factor is probably due to price, with Android phones being considerably less than Apple’s lineup of iPhones. But the most recent versions of Samsung Galaxy 7 and Note are not only cheaper than Apple but (for the time being) they are simply better – across a wide range of features. That being said, Apple has a new iPhone in the works and will likely bring some serious new firepower to that device in the never ending battle in this high-tech world of mobile phone technology.
Rumor has it that Google has a new, mobile OS in the wings to supersede Android. Keep your eyes open for “Fuchsia” which may be the name of their new Operating System. Bottom line, is the result of technology titans like Google and Apple battling it out is that we all are in for remarkable technology we can carry around with us in our pockets.
